This paper presents a comparative microeconometric analysis of the labour supply of married women in the USA and the FRG. A two equation censored regression model for panel data is derived from the theoretical model of life cycle labour supply and estimated using the Minimum Distance-Method and data from the German Socioeconomic Panel and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics. Applying the same variable selection rules and the same overidentifying restrictions in our estimation, the study offers a inter-country comparison of labour supply parameters that is largely free of the impact of different statistical and economic assumptions.
