Abstract:
Delineates a research agenda for measuring individual differences in face memory as a specific aspect of emotional intelligence (EI) based on the integration of experimental, psychophysiological, and correlational research. To develop the framework, the authors first summarize functional and neurophysiological models of face processing. Next, they present available evidence for 3 proposed abilities of face memory: perceiving, learning, and recognizing faces. These are discussed from an experimental and psychophysiological viewpoint as well as from the perspective of differences between individuals. Moreover, measurement issues and proposed measurement instruments are summed up in each section. In conclusion, the authors briefly summarize their expectations of the proposed approach, and they conclude with a focus on measurement implications and the potential impact on EI research.
