Aspects of the computational modeling of discontinuities with enriched triangular finite elements

In this paper the simulation of discrete cracks using triangular finite elements with an embedded interface is discussed. The formulation based on  is extended to geometric nonlinearity. The derivation starting from the kinematics for a divided body and the corresponding weak form of equilibrium is briefly described. Furthermore, some details concerning the numerical implementation are outlined. Finally, a three-point bending test is analyzed.
