Abstract:

In this paper the simulation of discrete cracks using triangular finite elements with an embedded interface is discussed. The formulation based on [2] is extended to geometric nonlinearity. The derivation starting from the kinematics for a divided body and the corresponding weak form of equilibrium is briefly described. Furthermore, some details concerning the numerical implementation are outlined. Finally, a three-point bending test is analyzed.
