Abstract:
The text deals with the composition of the vegetation cover of the tracks of Essen Central Station. At the end of April 2004, 69 different cormophytic plant taxa could be determined. Six of them have rarely been found in German railway stations before. Typical “railway plants” at the station are pointed out by comparing the findings of this survey with results of other studies. Only 11 % of all plant species found were neophytes. There is a considerable local and seasonal variability in the degree of plant cover which varies from 0 % to more than 30 %.
