Through fieldwork, the influence of the neighbouring industrial area on flora and vegetation of the seminatural ancient forest district called “Duisburg-Mülheimer Wald” was investigated. The urban as well as peri-urban woodland is characterized by red-oak, pine and spruce forests and a remarkable variety of different seminatural forest communities. In particular, the numerous invasive alien plants (primarily plants escaped from cultivation) indicate the impairments and stress caused by the industrial area. Establishment of invasives is discussed considering the local problems in nature conservation and the floristic and vegetational importance of this seminatural forest in urban agglomeration.
