Molecular tweezers as synthetic receptors in host-guest chemistry: inclusion of cyclohexane and self-assembly of aliphatic side chains.
The synthesis and supramol. properties (complex formation and self-assembly) of mol. tweezers, e.g. I (R = CO2Me), are reported. The key steps in the synthesis are repetitive Diels-Alder reactions with good stereoselectivity. I (R = CO2Me) formed a 1:1 complex with cyclohexane.
