Abstract:

The seemingly elusive tetracyclopropylmethane (I) has been prepd. for the first time via catalytic cyclopropanation of 3,3-dicyclopropyl-1,4-pentadiene. Ring opening of I yielded the likewise previously unknown tetraisopropylmethane (II). The crystal structure of I and II and also of tricyclopropylmethane (III) was detd. by X-ray structure anal.
