Structure of SO2/secondary amine complexes.

The structure and the phys. properties of the complexes of SO2 with dimethylamine (complex 1) and piperidine (complex 2) were examd. X-ray anal. showed that 1 and 2 are stable charge-transfer complexes. This could be confirmed by UV and IR spectroscopy. Complex 1, which is a yellowish liq. at room temp., shows a remarkably high sp. cond. of 4.16 mS/cm (25 Deg). The sp. cond. of 1 in mixts. with several org. solvents is discussed in relation to the dynamic structural changes.
