Abstract:
The transition-metal-substituted diphosphene (h5-C5Me5)(CO)2FeP:PR [I; C5H5 = cyclopentadienyl; R = 2,4,6-(Me3C)3C6H2] reacts with NCCH:CHCN in C6H6 to give the 1,2-diphosphetane all-trans-II (R1 = cyano) via a [2 + 2] cycloaddn. Similarly, compd. I is converted by either di-Me fumarate or di-Me maleate to similar cycloadduct all-trans-II (R1 = CO2Me). Diphosphetane II (R1 = cyano) was characterized by a single-crystal x-ray anal.
