Abstract:

Aq. solns. of air-stable Rh clusters stabilized by Ph2P(O)CH2CH2PO32- ligands were prepd. from Na2O3PCH2CH2PPh2 and [{Rh(cod)Cl}2] after treatment with H2. Depending on the H2 pressure applied, Rh clusters with size 2-6 nm can be isolated. These clusters are catalysts for the biphasic hydrogenation of olefins, arenes, and nitro compds. Synthesis of Na2O3PCH2CH2PPh2 is described.
