Abstract:
A study was conducted on biofilm formation and presence of hygienically relevant organisms on pipe sections of drinking water distribution systems. The materials of the pipes included cast iron, galvanized steel, cement, and PVC. Biofilms were ubiquitous on the inner surface of the distribution net. There was no correlation found between extent of deposit and colonization, neither between material and colonization, nor between age of pipes and colonization.
