Abstract:

The title compd. (I) was prepd. in 70% yield by lithiation of 1,3-(Me2N)2C6H4 with BuLi. The x-ray structure of I reveals the first trimeric organolithium species. This trimer is retained in apolar solvents like benzene or toluene. From NMR data a monomer-trimer equil. is proposed in THF soln.
