A review with 81 refs. concerning advantages and disadvantages of available anal. methods to det. fuel oxygenates in air and water is given. Topics discussed include: occurrence in water and air; anal. methods (sampling and enrichment: water [water sampling, direct aq. injection, headspace anal., purge and trap enrichment, solid phase micro-extn.]); sampling and enrichment: air; sepn.; std. prepn. and calibration; and detection (flame ionization detection, photoionization detection, mass spectrometry, at. emission detection, Fourier transform IR spectroscopy).
