Transesterification of tributyrin with methanol in the presence of 3d metal complexes.
The transesterification of tributyrin with methanol in the presence of 3d-metal complexes in polar solvents at 200 and 120 Deg is investigated. Results obtained with Co4(CO)12 and Co2(CO)8 under high pressure of N2, CO, and H2 as well as with 3d-metal ion acetylacetonates as catalysts are discussed. Significantly the different amts. of di- and monoglycerols and glycerin, depending on the catalyst, are explained by different reaction mechanisms, in agreement with kinetic measurements.
