Abstract:

Transient structural changes in high-d. polyethylene [9002-88-4] during uniaxial elongation were studied by simultaneous mech. and FTIRS measurements at ambient and elevated temps. The results are discussed in terms of orientational changes of the crystal axes and the crystal-phase transformation of the polymer during mech. treatment, and the microstructural consequences are correlated with macroscopic mech. properties.
