Ideas of students were tested in the field of batteries and redox reactions. The concept of own word mapping (OWM) was explained to the students and the students were requested to form a net with own concepts to the given problem of redox reactions. After this instruction a picture with a battery and a picture on which a Fe nail is dipped into a Cu-sulfate soln. were presented. In an integration test, the students were given scientific concepts of the field redox reactions and requested to integrate these concepts into their before produced net of own words and ideas. The students' ideas provoked by the pictures are described and discussed. [on SciFinder (R)]
