Crystal perfection and triplet excitons in 1,4-dibromonaphthalene.
The phosphorescent behavior of 1,4-dibromonaphthalene single crystals at liq.-He temps. is strongly influenced by the crystal prepn. techniques. Crystal imperfections appear to be essential for observing excitonic emission. A comparison is made between crystals grown from the melt, soln. and vapor. Expts. on crystals doped with DBN-d6 confirm the proposed model.
