Abs. rate consts. and CH3O [2143-68-2] product yield for the reaction of OH radicals with MeOH [67-56-1] were detd. using a combined laser photolysis/resonance fluorescence (laser induced fluorescence) technique. The rate coeff. for total OH (kg = k1 + k2) is kg = (1.2 +- 0.3) * 10-11 exp[-(810 +- 50) K/T] cm3/mol-s at 295-420 K. The branching ratio of HCHO formation, j = k1/k1 + k2, where (1) OH + CH3OH -> CH3O + H2O and (2) OH + CH3OH -> CH2OH + H2O, is 0.11 +- 0.03 and 0.22 +- 0.07 at 298 and 393 K, resp. From the temp. dependence of j, is predicted that reaction (1) is dominant in the combustion temp. region.
