Rate measurements for the reactions atomic hydrogen + nitrogen dioxide -> hydroxyl + nitric oxide and atomic hydrogen + nitrosyl chloride -> hydrogen chloride + nitric oxide by Lyman-a fluorescence.
Rate consts. for the reactions of H atoms with NO2(k1) and NOCl(k2) were detd. in a discharge flow system by using the detection of H atoms by Lyman-a resonance fluorescence. From temp. dependent measurements at 240-460 DegK the Arrhenius expressions, k1 = (4.3 +- 1.8)1014exp(-4.2 +- 0.7 kJ mole-1/RT) and k2 = (4.6 +- 1.2)1013exp(-3.8 +- 0.6 kJ mole-1/RT) cm3 mole-1 sec-1, could be obtained.
