The reaction of H atoms with allene was investigated in an isothermal flow reactor at 273-470 DegK/1-20 Torr. Stable products (H2, propylene and methylacetylene, and small amts. of CH4, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, C3H8, cyclopropane, 1,5-hexadiene and 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene) were detd. by gas chromatog. and mass spectrometry. By measuring the H atom concns. using ESR spectroscopy and by detg. temp. dependent product distribution is well, rate consts. for H atom addn. to terminal (H + allene -(k1)-> . CMe:CH2*) and non-terminal (H + allene -(k2)->.CH2CH:CH2*) positions could be evaluated. A mechanism accounting adequately for the observed products is discussed.
