This thesis is about the Sliding Spark Spectrometry as a new method in atomic spectroscopy for direct analysis of solid, non conducting substances. The basic principle of the sliding spark spectroscopy is the thermal vaporization of a small amount of the sample surface using a high current spark which takes place between two tungsten electrodes which are placed direct on the surface of the non conducting material of the sample. The components of the sample are vaporized, fragmented and ionised; a bright, tube shaped creeping discharge plasma is excited which emits characteristic light radiation which can be evaluated with the spectrometer optic. In this thesis the adaptation of the sliding spark technique for the direct analysis of sewage sludge and waste water is described.
